Labour Force Survey (July) Statistics Canada said the economy shed a net 2,200 jobs in June after two months of gains and the unemployment rate edged up to 5.5% as more people joined the workforce.
The unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage points to 5.5% as the number of people looking for work increased.
Building Permits (June) Following a record $9.5 billion in April, the value of permits issued by Canadian municipalities declined 13.0% to $8.2 billion in May, largely due to a drop in British Columbia. Excluding B.C., the national value of permits rose 3.2%.
