Housing Starts (Oct.) The six-month trend in housing starts increased (4.1%) in September (277,147 units), according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend measure is a six-month moving average of the seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of total housing starts for all areas in Canada.

Canada's International Transactions in Securities (Sept.) Foreign investors acquired $25.9 billion of Canadian securities in August, led by purchases of debt instruments. Meanwhile, Canadian investors added $19.5 billion of foreign securities to their portfolio, led by investment in shares.

CREA Sales (Oct.) The number of home sales recorded over Canadian MLS® Systems declined by 1.7% on a month-over-month basis in September ending a string of gains that began in April. That said, it was still the best month of September for sales since 2021.

Consumer Price Index (Oct.) CPI rose 2.4% year over year in September, up from a 1.9% increase in August. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.4% in September.

New Motor Vehicle Sales (Sept.) There were 167,017 new motor vehicles sold in Canada in August, increasing 0.5% from August 2024. In dollar terms, sales decreased 1.7% in August 2025. Sales of new passenger cars increased 1.0% from one year earlier, the third consecutive monthly increase for this subsector. There were also more sales of trucks (+0.4%).
