Labour Force Survey (Jan.) Employment edged up 23,000, or 0.1%, in December and the unemployment rate was 7.1%, unchanged from the previous month.
Canadian international merchandise trade (Dec.) Imports decreased 0.7% in November and exports increased 0.4%. Import volumes declined 1.6% while prices increased 0.9%.
For exports, volumes were up 0.7% while prices declined 0.4%. As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $2.5 billion in October to $2 billion in November.
