Why Disney Is a Great Tech Name to Own

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the rollout of Disney+ (NYSE:DIS), given the stiff competition in the streaming space. After seeing the pricing that was announced, along with the rollout of content, I realized Disney is in a different space on the product offering map than other large streaming companies, for a couple of key reasons.

The first reason is Disney is unique in the sense that a ton of original content owned by the company is "old" content, or classic content. These movies that have been produced by Disney over the past century are ones that children and adults can watch over, and over, and over again.

The "one-and-done" nature of shows or movies on platforms like Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) means the company needs to constantly roll out new content, or risk losing viewership. For Disney, having a stable of old classics is enough of a reason for many subscribers to stick with the platform – don’t want to lose access to all those great movies, for a low monthly price!

The second reason I think Disney+ is truly differentiated from its competition is its ability to integrate with Hulu and live TV. The platform has many of the same characteristics as Netflix or Amazon video via Hulu, has a sports/live TV option to persuade sports lovers to give it a shot and finally cut the cable, and the original classic content Disney has in its inventory is enough to keep most viewers happy.

There’s simply too much to like about Disney+ relative to the competition – this platform has raised the game for Disney, and is yet another reason Disney remains one of my top picks.

Invest wisely, my friends.
