Prices for wholesale goods in this country put together a mini-hot streak this summer, according to figures released Monday by Statistics Canada.
The agency said wholesale sales rose for a second consecutive month in July, up 1.7% to $65.4 billion. This is the sixth increase in the first seven months of 2019.
The figure was boosted by gains in the personal and household goods sub-sector and the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories group.
Economists on average had expected no change for the month.
The personal and household goods sub-sector rose 4.7% to $9.7 billion in July after falling 0.3% in June.
StatsCan also said sales in the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories sub-sector climbed 4% to $11.4 billion. Sales in the machinery, equipment and supplies group fell 1.1% to $13.7 billion.
