Asia Mixed After Wall St. Tech Rally

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed Tuesday after Wall Street gained on a tech rally.

In Japan, the Nikkei gave back some of its hearty gains, sliding 184.32 points, or 0.4%, to 43,459.29.

The Japanese yen strengthened 0.2% to 147.22 against the greenback.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng continued its climb, taking on 304.22 points, or 1.2%, to 25,938.13.

Overnight stateside, the three major averages closed higher. The NASDAQ Composite closed at a record high as investors geared up for a data-heavy week that includes two closely watched readings on inflation.

The tech-heavy NASDAQ finished up 0.45% at 21,798.70, a record high after hitting a new all-time intraday high in the session. The S&P 500, meanwhile, settled up 0.21% at 6,495.15, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 114.09 points, or 0.25%, to close at 45,514.95.

In other markets

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 lost 31.31 points, or 0.7%, to 4,436.26.

In Singapore, the Straits Times index sank 10.95 points, or 0.3%, to 4,297.57.

In Korea, the Kospi gained 40.46 points, or 1.3%, to 3,260.05.

In Taiwan, the Taiex index popped 307.8 points, or 1.3%, to 24,885.18.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 subtracted 27.41 points, or 0.2%, to 13,253.73.

In Australia, the ASX 200 fell 46.04 points, or 0.5%, to 8,803.54.
