Yen strengthens, Japan ends win streak

Japan stocks moved lower on Wednesday, snapping a three-day winning streak, as the yen crept higher against the U.S. dollar.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 faded 24.04 points, or 0.1%, to 17,383.58

Meanwhile, the yen traded little changed versus where it was a day earlier, around ¥117.85.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index recovered 268.07 points, or 1.1%, to 24,111.98

Among market movers, Honda Motor Co. slid 2.9%, after the auto maker said it had failed to report more than 1,700 death and injury incidents to U.S. regulators since 2003.

Sony Corporation also declined 1.3%, after the conglomerate agreed to refund U.S. consumers with $12 million to settle charges with the Federal Trade Commission over its misleading ads for PlayStation Vita gaming consoles.

Samsung Techwin Co. Ltd., Samsung Group’s defense unit, sank by the daily trading limit of 15%, after Samsung Group said it would sell stakes in its chemical and defense units for 1.9 trillion won ($1.7 billion U.S.).

In other markets;

Shanghai’s CSI 300 index gathered 37.46 points, or 1.4%, to 2,723.02

Singapore’s Straits Times Index advanced 4.67 points, or 0.1%, to 3,349.66

The Taiex index in Taiwan restored 6.15 points, or 0.1%, to 9,122.39

Korea’s Kospi index gained 0.63 points to 1,980.84

New Zealand’s Exchange 50 added 14.71 points, or 0.3%, to 5,457.39

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 regained 61.42 points, or 1.2%, to 5,936.21.
