Is It Time To Finally Cut Cable For Good?

It’s easier than ever to watch TV without a cable subscription.

Never mind services like Netflix or Shomi or Crave, which all put thousands of hours of television right at your fingertips. Youtube has enough content on it to keep anyone busy for a very long time. And it’s easy to watch network shows on their own websites after a slight delay.

Even live sports, formerly the last bastion for many cable subscribers, are beginning to be transformed. Although there’s no Netflix for sports-- at least, not yet-- it’s easy to purchase packages from your favorite league that allow access to every game. It’s also relatively easy to find illegal streams, especially of big sporting events.

Savvy entrepreneurs are taking advantage of this trend and coming out with Android-powered boxes that connect to your television and make it easy to find just about any show you’re looking for. The legality of these boxes can perhaps be debated, but not their effectiveness.

Thousands of Canadians have gladly exchanged $100-$200- -depending on the model-- to dump cable forever.

It’s even easy for most Canadians to attach high definition antennas to their televisions which will get them any number of channels over the air for free, depending on their location.

Cable can often cost upwards of $100 per month. Even if you stick with paid, official ways to watch TV, it’s easy to be entertained for far less than that. It’s an incredibly simple way to put cash in your pocket that really adds up over time.
