3 Things to Buy in October

October is the month for Thanksgiving, Halloween, and for many unlucky parts of the country, the first snowfall of the winter.

It’s also prime time to make a few different purchases. Here are three things to buy in October.

Turkey

One trick supermarkets use to get people in the store for their Thanksgiving shopping is selling incredibly cheap frozen turkeys. One store in my neck of the woods is selling turkeys for $0.88 per pound.

Less than a dollar per pound for any meat is a great deal, and turkey is versatile enough that you can make leftovers into all sorts of delicious meals. Go ahead and fill up your freezer with cheap meat.

Cars

New car models tend to come out during the summer, which leads to car dealerships discounting last year’s models. Come October, they’re getting really nervous about getting those cars off the lot. That’s good news for a well-qualified buyer.

Deals can often be two-fold, with both the purchase price and financing conditions getting more and more attractive as the dealership’s desperation increases.

Air conditioners

In October, we start turning on our furnaces. We sure don’t need air conditioners.

Which makes it a great time to buy a discounted unit. Stores will be trying to get rid of their summer gear, knowing that a fresh new shipment of air conditioners is coming next spring.
