Central bank keeps rates steady

The Bank of Canada kept its benchmark interest rate at 1% again, the same level it's been at for more than four years.

In a statement accompanying the decision, the central bank said the current rate is "appropriate" for the current state of the economy.

Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz was to give a news conference to provide further details on the bank's way of thinking at 11 a.m., but that news conference was pre-empted by the shootings on Parliament Hill.
