GDP Expanded by 4.5% in May

The country's economy is only slowly starting to pull out of its slump in this country, a slump fostered by the ravages of the coronavirus, according to figures released Friday by Statistics Canada.

Gross Domestic Product expanded by 4.5% in May as businesses across the country began reopening from pandemic-related shutdowns.

The agency went on to say the goods-producing sector posted a 8.0% increase, while the service-producing sector grew by 3.4%. In all, says StatsCan, 17 of the 20 industrial sectors posted increases in May, StatsCan said.
