U.S. Consumer Sentiment Tops Expectations

A measure of consumers' attitudes in the United States remained slightly below the decade peak recorded in January, according to figure released Friday by the University of Michigan.

The school's Consumer Sentiment Index to hit 96.3 in February. Economists expected index to hit 96 in February, according to a Thomson Reuters consensus estimate.

The monthly survey of 500 consumers measures attitudes toward topics, such as personal finances, inflation, unemployment, government policies and interest rates.
