House Price Index Flat in U.S.

The general economic euphoria following Donald Trump's election as U.S. president did not carry over to the housing sector, according to government figures released Wednesday morning.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) reported on Wednesday that the U.S. House Price Index (HPI) remained unchanged in January from December. However, on an annual basis, house prices down south increased 5.7% from January 2016.

FHFA goes on to say December's month-on-month increase of 0.4% remained unrevised.

Monthly HPI is calculated using home sales price information from mortgages sold to, or guaranteed by, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
