Futures Flat Ahead of Trump Trade Meeting



U.S. stock index futures were flat on Thursday as investors awaited for President Donald Trump to meet with his top trade advisors ahead of a key deadline with China.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials sagged 47 points, or 0.2%, Thursday to 27,866.

Futures for the S&P 500 dropped four points, or 0.1%, at 3,139.

The NASDAQ Composite slumped 16.25 points, or 0.2%, to 8,389.25.

Broadcom. Inc, and Costco Wholesale are among the companies reporting earnings today.

Trump’s meeting, which was cited in reports three unnamed sources familiar with the matter, comes as both sides try to iron out a "phase-one" deal with China before Sunday. If an agreement is not reached by then, additional U.S. levies on Chinese products will take effect.

On the data front Thursday, the latest weekly jobless claims and producer price index figures for November will both be released at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 eked up 0.1% Thursday, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index rocketed 1.3%.

Oil prices gained 25 cents at $59.01 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices picked up $6.50 to $1,481.50 U.S. an ounce.
