Weakness in Oil Weighs Futures

Stock futures pointed to a lower opening for stocks in Canada’s biggest centre on Friday as oil prices slipped on concerns over global oversupply.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index retreated 82.66 points to end Thursday at 15,550.55 June futures docked 0.1% Friday

The Canadian dollar slumped 0.18 cents to 72.79 cents U.S. early Friday.

Home Capital Group disclosed data on Friday that showed the rate of withdrawals by depositors slowed for a second day in a row.

Amaya Inc., the owner of online gambling sites PokerStars and Full Tilt, reported an 18.5% increase in quarterly profit, as it attracted more customers.

Enbridge said on Thursday it may acquire more assets and forecast a rise in adjusted earnings this year following its purchase of Spectra Energy Corp.

CIBC cut the target price on Aimia Inc. to $3.25 from $8.00

CIBC raised the target price on Linamar Corp. to $69.00 from $65.00

Cowen and Company raised the target on Westport Fuel Systems to $1.50 from $1.25

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a lower open on Friday morning as traders anticipated a big day of data.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials let go of 26 points, or 0.1%, to 20,844. Futures for the S&P 500 sank 4.5 points, or 0.2%, to 2,386.50. NASDAQ futures fell 4.25 points, or 0.1%, to 5,666.50.

JC Penney and Acushnet are due to report earnings before the bell. U.S. equities closed lower on Thursday as retail stocks fell sharply on the back of Macy's weak quarterly results.

In terms of this data, Consumer Price Index and retail sales are set to be released, while business inventories and consumer sentiment are slated to come out a tad later.

European bourses were pretty flat approaching afternoon, while Nikkei 225 in Japan lost 0.4%, and the CSI 300 in Shanghai gained 0.9%

Oil prices fell five cents to $47.78 U.S. per barrel.

Gold prices gained four dollars to $1,228.20 U.S. an ounce.
