Futures Higher Before Bank Rate Announcement

Stock futures pointed to a higher opening for Canada's main stock index on Wednesday as investors await an interest rate decision by the Bank of Canada.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 43.86 points to end Tuesday at 15,149.14

September futures gained 0.2% early Wednesday.

The Canadian dollar docked 0.09 cents to 77.34 cents early Wednesday

The median consensus, according to analysts speaking on Tuesday, showed the central bank will increase rates by 25 basis points to 0.75%, the first hike in nearly seven years. The listing is set for 10 a.m. ET.

Home Capital Group appointed Yousry Bissada as its chief executive, bringing to an end a search it started in March after it terminated the employment of former CEO Martin Reid.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a higher open on Wednesday as traders awaited the latest central bank policy announcements

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gathered 31 points, or 0.2%, to 21,398. Futures for the S&P 500 added four points, or 0.2%, to 2,428.50. NASDAQ futures took on 16.75 points, or 0.3%, to 5,736.75

In earnings news, Bank of the Ozarks and Fastenal posted quarterly results before the bell. Barnes & Noble and MSC Industrial are both due to report after the market close.

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen will be outlining her Monetary Policy Report Wednesday in an address to Congress which is likely to also pose questions about further tightening and Yellen's own future at the central bank.

European markets vaulted Wednesday afternoon, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 erased 0.5% and Shanghai’s CSI 300 slid 0.3% off its 18-month high.

Oil prices gained 69 cents to $45.73 U.S. per barrel.

Gold prices moved up $1.10 to $1,215.80 U.S. an ounce.
