Addressing the USA’s 200 to 1 Security Protection Gap is a Serious Concern for Tech Companies

VANCOUVER – A serious oversight in security may be developing within the United States. While the country currently has a population of over 331 million, there are only 660,288 full-time law enforcement officers on duty, and just over one million more security guards, leaving roughly 200 people to every one protector. This security gap has led to the rise of technological innovation in the field of security, including ABM Industries Incorporated (NYSE:ABM) signing a deal with Knightscope, Inc. (NASDAQ:KSCP), as well as other developers making advancements like Leidos Holdings (NYSE:LDOS), Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:AXON), and Shotspotter Inc. (NASDAQ:SSTI).

Coming to a major international parking facility in the US will be three Autonomous Robots from advanced physical monitoring technology developers Knightscope, Inc. (NASDAQ:KSCP). Through improvements of a partnership with ABM (NYSE:ABM), Knightscope self-driving robots will now navigate and monitor ABM’s parking facility without any human intervention to gather and deliver unprecedented levels of data and actionable intelligence for the airport’s operations team, in order to assist in making smarter, safer, and faster decisions on the fly.

Knightscope’s robots have the ability to see a full 360 -degrees (even in the dark), as well as being able to directly stream video to airport staff, while keeping a high-definition record of its observations for up to 30 days.

“This Parking facility is a model for airports across the country,” stated William Santana Li, chairman and CEO, Knightscope, Inc. “We are honored that ABM employs Knightscope’s cutting-edge technologies to enhance the traveler experience and support its parking operations, and we look forward to bringing similar success to other parts of the country.”

With powerful analytics embedded within, Knightscope’s Autonomous Robots can even detect a person that the human eye may not be able to see under certain conditions. Each Autonomous Robot also features a sensitive 16-microphone array with two-way audio functionality, allowing airport staff to have a live conversation with a person within the garage using the robot itself as the communication medium.

“Through our ongoing partnerships and our integrated mobility solutions, we are reimagining parking infrastructure by pioneering an enhanced experience that prioritizes drivers and creates unified parking systems designed to generate more revenue with lower operating costs,” said Josh Feinberg, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, ABM. “For many, the air travel experience often begins and ends in an airport parking lot. It can set the tone for the trip and may be the last thing they remember. The overall experience is critical, and this new technology pilot works to further integrate and streamline the parking facility operations.”

Having raised over $120 million and amassing more than 35,000 investors since its inception in 2013, Knightscope has developed its own proprietary tech from scratch, and rolled out for over 1.8 million hours of field operation to date. The company is just coming off of announcing its largest contract in company history, consisting of 12 K5 Autonomous Security Robots (ASRs), 2 K1 Blue Light Towers, and 2 K1 Call Boxes.

Knightscope continues to deliver on its promise to rapidly grow the Company and help make the United States of America the safest country in the world,” added Santana Li.

Leidos Holdings (NYSE:LDOS) is another technology leader that just announced a deal with a major airport, this time being selected by New-South Synergy to upgrade US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

"We are proud to work with New-South Synergy as a critical partner in its deployment of next generation security technologies," said Jonathan Stone, Director of Aviation and Division Manager at Leidos. "These upgrades represent the next step in the transformation of our nation's aviation checkpoints. Together we seek to improve operational efficiency for airports and make travel more seamless for passengers."

As part of a larger initiative to expand and enhance the airport’s security checkpoints, the upgrades help by leveraging the latest technologies, while also improving the passenger experience. The upgrade will update security lanes at the Domestic Terminal Main Security Checkpoint with Leidos' Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT). These upgrades include replacing the existing Pro:Vision® 1 scanners with 10 new Pro:Vision® 2 systems. Some of the benefits include a compact design and footprint, and continued safe millimeter wave technology.

For global public safety technology leaders Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:AXON), today’s crime and safety numbers just aren’t good enough. Back in October, Axon announced what it is calling a moonshot goal to cut gun-related deaths between police and the public in half by 2033.

According to the data presented in the moonshot goal’s official website, gun-related deaths between police and the public have risen steadily for at least the past six years, and 2022 is on the same trajectory.

"We are calling on our own employees, leaders of the law enforcement profession, community organizations, technology companies, elected officials and others to support and achieve this goal," said Axon CEO and Founder Rick Smith. "This is not Axon's moonshot. This is our moonshot. And we all have a role to play in achieving this goal."

Axon is committed to investing in better technology, training and data that will help achieve better outcomes and deepen trust between law enforcement and the communities they protect and serve.

Likely helping along the way for such a goal will be the efforts of leading precision policing technology solutions company Shotspotter Inc. (NASDAQ:SSTI), which just announced a new phase of its ShotSpotter acoustic gunshot detection project being rolled out in Hanover Park, with other suburbs to also shortly receive the technology.

The new phase follows an initial phase of the project that ran from 2016 to 2019, where ShotSpotter technology was installed and operational in Hanover Park and Manenberg and resulted in over 200 lives being saved, a significant reduction in shooting incidents, and the recovery of illegal guns jumping five-fold in these areas.
