McDonald’s Again Sources 100% Of Its Beef From Canada

McDonald's Canada (NYSE:MCD) will again source all of its beef from Canadian sources.

The fast food chain was forced to bring in meat from outside the country for the past few months after supply chains were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now, McDonald’s will switch back to 100%-Canadian beef beginning in September, the company announced.

McDonald’s Canada made headlines when it announced in April that, due to temporary supply chain disruptions, it would source beef from outside the country. This spring two of Canada's largest meat processors experienced outbreaks of COVID-19 infections among their plant workers.

To meet its beef demand, McDonald’s Canada began sourcing supplemental beef from pre-approved suppliers in the United States, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. McDonald's Canada, which has used 100% Canadian beef since 2003, said it maintained over 80% of its beef supply from Canadian sources, on average, since April.
