Ottawa To Host Supply Chain Summit

Canada’s federal government has announced plans to hold a summit to examine the country's supply chain problems and seek ways to improve current bottlenecks and other problems that are harming the system.

Federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra says the meeting will take place early in the New Year and bring together industry, shippers and organizations that run critical infrastructure.

The government says stakeholders will have a chance to discuss challenges, strategies, and next steps to help enable a swift recovery of Canada's transportation supply chain.

Global supply chain issues have caused shortages and other problems for businesses as the economy has ramped up amid an easing of pandemic restrictions.

The issues in Canada have been compounded by the storms and mudslides in British Columbia that have cut key rail and highway routes between the busy Port of Vancouver on the west coast and the rest of the country.

The Bank of Canada has said that it is keeping a close eye on supply chain issues and what they mean for inflation and elevated consumer prices.
