Asian Stocks Mostly Lower to End Week

Shares in Asia mostly declined on Friday after the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 100 points overnight.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 dropped 48.85 points, or 0.2%, to end the week at 22,258.73, as shares of index heavyweights Softbank Group and Fanuc declined.

Shares of Nintendo fell 1.32% after the company announced what one analyst described as "ultra-conservative guidance" for the current fiscal year.

The Japanese yen traded at 111.62 against the U.S. dollar after strengthening from lows around the 112.2 handle in the previous session.

Japan is set to begin a 10-day holiday from April 27 to May 6 to celebrate the enthronement of the country’s Crown Prince Naruhito.

The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong moved forward 55.21 points, or 0.9%, to 29,605.01

The Australian dollar changed hands at $0.7022 following an earlier low of $0.7005.

In other markets

The CSI 300 in China lost 52.55 points, or 1.3%, to 3,889.27

In Singapore, the Straits Times Index inched up 6.67 points, or 0.2%, to 3,356.95

Korea’s Kospi Index shed 11.19 points, or 0.5%, to 2,179.31

The Taiex Index in Taiwan slumped 87.39 points, or 0.8%, to 10,952.47

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 returned from holiday to lose 52.61 points, or 0.8%, to 6,663.98

In Australia, the ASK 200 took on 3.5 points, or 0.1% -- also returning from a holiday – to 6,385.65.
