Asian stock markets were generally mixed Thursday with investors hoping Western economies could avoid a recession while markets in Markets in China, India and Australia were closed for holidays.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong rose 1.9% to 22,464.77 while the Nikkei 225 in Tokyo shed 0.1% to 27,362.75.
Hong Kong's exports dove 28.9% from a year earlier to $348.1 billion in December 2022, while imports plummeted 23.5% to $399.7 billion in the same period.
Singapore index increased 0.73% to 3,377.19.
Singapore’s manufacturing output decreased by 3.1% year-on-year in December 2022, after an upwardly revised 3.8% drop in November.

India's Sensex benchmark slipped 1.27% to close at 60,205.06
The Kospi in Seoul gained 1.5% to 2,465.64.
New Zealand, Singapore and Jakarta advanced while Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur declined.
