Selling picked up globally Tuesday with South Korea’s Kospi leading the region’s losses. Memory chip leader SK Hynix, which has led a speculative AI frenzy in the country, closed down more than 12%.
The Nikkei 225 dropped 2,565.58 points, or 3.6%, to 69,788.38, breaking eight sessions of gains.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index gave up 423.24 points, or 1.8%, to 23,768.52.

In Shanghai, the CSI index removed 140.27 points, or 2.8%, to 4,919.39.
In Korea, the Kospi index turfed 910.71 points, or 10%, to 8,203.84.
In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index inched ahead 1.73 points to 5,205.74.
The Taiex index in Taiwan dumped 640.86 points, or 1.3%, to 47,100.65.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 docked 10.28 points, or 0.1%, to 13,435.77.
In Australia, the ASX lost 29.16 points, or 0.3%, to 8,786.
