China’s Economy Grew 6% In Fourth Quarter Of 2019

China’s economy recovered in the fourth quarter of 2019, growing 6% from a year earlier.

The growth during the final quarter of last year came after China’s economy slowed to its weakest pace in almost three decades in 2019. The fourth quarter recovery saw the first acceleration in investment since June of last year, signaling that a firmer recovery could be underway in the world’s most populous country.

China’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 6% in the final quarter of 2019 from a year earlier, the same as in the previous three-month period. Fixed-asset investment rose 5.4% in the year, increasing its pace in the final month due to a jump in manufacturing expenditures.

The world’s second-largest economy expanded by 6.1% in 2019, slower than 6.6% in the previous year but in line with the government’s target. The signing of the phase-one trade deal with the U.S. this week combined with recovering global demand has improved the outlook for Chinese factories and exporters in 2020.
