Saudi Purge Weighs on Monday Futures

Brookfield, IMO in Focus

Stock futures pointed to a slightly lower opening for Canada's main stock index on Monday as the news of anti-corruption crackdown in Saudi Arabia stirred concerns of Middle Eastern money pulling out of global financial markets.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index squeezed 5.17 points to end Friday and the week at 16,020.16, still, yet another all-time record for the index.

The Canadian dollar nicked up 0.03 cents at 78.38 cents U.S. Monday morning.

December futures docked 0.05% Monday morning.

U.S. stock index futures pointed to a mixed open on Monday, as investors pivoted their attention to the latest set of earnings set to be published.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 11 points, or 0.1%, to 23,460

S&P 500 futures shed 1.25 points, or 0.1%, to 2,581.50, while futures on the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.75 points to 6,292.25.

The first day of the trading week will see a slew of companies report earnings. Before the bell, CVS Health, Michael Kors and SoftBank are some of the companies that reported quarterly results.

Priceline, Avis Budget, TripAdvisor, AMC Entertainment, Etsy, GoDaddy, TrueCar and Weight Watchers are expected to publish corporate earnings after the bell.

On the political front, U.S. President Donald Trump will be continuing his trip in Asia this week.

On Monday, Trump said that the States stood by Japan, when it comes to dealing with North Korean "menace", with Trump adding that both Japan and the U.S. should work together to fix issues with trade.

Overseas, European stocks trading under pressure approaching noon on the continent, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 gathered nine points, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index lost nearly seven points.

Oil prices gained 31 cents to $55.95 U.S. per barrel.

Gold prices took on two dollars to $1,271.20 U.S. an ounce.
