Stock futures for Canada's main stock index were slightly higher on Wednesday as investors waited for minutes from the U.S. Fed's last policy meeting in January.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index erased 13.2 points to close Tuesday at 15,439.44

The Canadian dollar fell 0.16 cents to 78.9 cents U.S. Wednesday morning.

March futures notched higher 0.1% Wednesday.

Wealthsimple, a Toronto-based online wealth management startup, has raised $51 million in funding from Power Financial Corp. , as it seeks to compete in the increasingly crowded digital investment advice market.

CIBC raised the rating on Capital Power Corp. to outperform from neutral

BMO cut the rating on Canadian REIT to market perform from outperform

BMO cut the rating on Echelon Financial Holdings to underperform from market perform

Desjardins cut the price target on Semafo Inc. to $5.00 from $5.50

U.S. stock index futures rose slightly on Wednesday as investors looked ahead to the release of a meeting summary from the Federal Reserve.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped seven points to 24,941.

S&P 500 futures inched up 1.75 points, or 0.1%, to 2,715.75, while futures on the NASDAQ Composite gained 19.5 points, or 0.3%, at 6,810.

Owens Corning Inc is among a spate of firms out with earnings Wednesday.

The Fed will release the minutes from its January meeting at 2 p.m. ET. Wall Street will be looking for clues about inflation and interest rates.

In data news, the flash U.S. composite purchasing managers' index (PMI) at 9:45 a.m. ET, and existing homes sales at 10 a.m. ET.

Politics remained in the back of investors' minds as developments into Russia's alleged involvement in the 2016 U.S. presidential election rumble on.

On Tuesday, an attorney who is the son-in-law of a Russian oligarch, Alex Van der Zwaan, pleaded guilty to lying to federal authorities investigating alleged links between Russia and the Donald Trump campaign.

Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.2%, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index zoomed 1.8%

Oil prices subsided 22 cents to $61.57 U.S. per barrel.

Gold prices dipped 60 cents to $1,330.60 U.S. an ounce.
