Validity of MLB Advanced Media Patent Challenged in Post Grant Review

[ACCESSWIRE]

Is MLBAM's "Pitch Classification" Patent Valid?

ALBUQUERQUE, NM / ACCESSWIRE / August 17, 2015 / Front Row Technologies, LLC. is challenging the validity of MLB Advanced Media's "Real Time Pitch Classification" Patent No. 8,876,638 in a Post Grant Review petition filed on August 4, 2015 with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). A Post Grant Review (PGR) is a trial proceeding conducted at the USPTO's Patent Trials & Appeal Board (PTAB) to review the patentability of one or more claims in a patent.

MLBAM's "Real Time Pitch Classification" patent was granted on November 4, 2014. The alleged inventors listed on the '638 patent are Ross Paul and Cory Schwartz. Ross Paul is currently the CTO of 1stdibs.com and was previously a VP of Engineering with MLBAM. Cory Schwartz is Vice President of Stats for MLBAM.

The PGR filed by Front Row seeks a review by the PTAB of the validity of the '638 patent under 35 USC 101 because the invention claimed in the patent is not patent eligible under the Alice v. CLS Bank International decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
