Partial Restart Of Keystone Pipeline Delayed By Weather

TC Energy’s (TRP) attempts to partially restart its Keystone oil pipeline have been delayed by winter weather.

The Calgary-based company is trying to get the Keystone pipeline back online after a 14,000-barrel spill in Kansas shutdown the entire operation that carries crude oil from Canada’s oil fields to refiners on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

TC Energy announced a partial restart of the pipeline on December 10, but bad winter weather has disrupted those plans.

Additionally, the pipeline’s proximity to a waterway raises the risk of contamination from leaking oil, further complicating efforts to restart Keystone.

TC Energy said that despite the complications, it is still aiming to have Keystone completely back online by December 20.

Keystone delivers as many as 600,000 barrels of crude oil a day to the U.S. The current oil spill is the largest in the pipeline’s history, and one of the worst environmental disasters in the U.S. since 2010.

TC Energy’s stock is down 2% this year and trading at $58.59 U.S. per share.
