TC Energy Delays Full Restart Of Keystone Pipeline

TC Energy (TRP) has delayed the full restart of its Keystone oil pipeline until December 28 as the company continues to manage a 14,000-barrel spill in the U.S. that shutdown the entire system.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company had planned to have the Keystone pipeline fully operational again by December 20.

However, the date for the full restart has now been pushed back to December 28, at the earliest. TC Energy previously said that cold weather is making its clean-up of the oil spill in Kansas difficult.

Additionally, Canada’s federal government in Ottawa must give its approval before the Keystone pipeline can fully resume operations.

The shutdown of the pipeline that carries crude oil from western Canada to the U.S. Midwest has roiled oil markets, limiting supplies to the American storage hub in Cushing, Oklahoma.

One leg of the pipeline that runs from Hardisty, Alberta to Patoka, Illinois has restarted operations at reduced capacity. But the majority of the pipeline remains shutdown.

Keystone has spilled more oil in the U.S. than any other pipeline since 2010, when the system began operations, according to data from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

TC Energy’s stock is down 10% this year and trading at $54.05 per share.
