Canadian National Railway Workers Threaten Strike Action

Workers at Canadian National Railway (CNR) are threatening to go on a strike as early as June
18.

The Montreal-based railway company said the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
(IBEW), a union representing about 750 workers across Canada, has delivered it a 72-hour
strike notice.

Management at Canadian National Railway said it is confident that a deal with the union can still
be reached, adding that it will continue to negotiate with the union in good faith. However, any
strike action would disrupt rail service nationwide in Canada.

The remaining differences focus on wages and benefits, and the railway company has offered to
resolve the outstanding disagreements through binding arbitration.

Canadian National Railway endured an eight-day labour strike in 2019. Shares of Canadian
National Railway are down 8% this year at $142.21.
