Tesla Offers Electric Vehicle Discounts In Canada

Tesla (TSLA) is offering discounts on its electric vehicles sold in Canada.

Specifically, the Austin, Texas-based company is offering a $5,000 credit in Canada on Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles that are purchased before December 31 this year.

Canada is the latest country to receive discounts and incentives from Tesla as the company seeks to boost sales in the final quarter of 2022.

In America, Tesla is offering a $7,500 U.S. discount on Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles that are bought by year’s end.

In China, the automaker is providing a discount of 6,000 yuan ($860 U.S.) on most of its electric vehicle models.

Tesla is also offering in most territories free supercharging for 10,000 miles (16,093 kms) on vehicles bought in the month of December.

The discounts come as Tesla struggles with waning consumer demand, and as chief executive officer (CEO) Elon Musk focuses his attention on Twitter, the social media company he bought this past October for $44 billion U.S.

Tesla says it is being forced to offer incentives as it grapples with not only slowing consumer demand but also supply chain issues, persistent inflation, and continued COVID-19 lockdowns in China where the company has a major manufacturing plant outside of Shanghai.

In October, Tesla said it would miss its vehicle delivery and revenue targets for this year.

Tesla’s stock is down 66% in 2022 at $137.57 U.S. per share.
