Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) unveiled a new look for its mobile messaging app. The aim of the messaging app is to provide more than just a simple list of recent conversations. Its launch comes shortly after the social networking giant announced that the Messenger for Android users can now use the app for SMS.
The recent conversations in the messaging app will continue to be at the top of the screen. However, they will be followed by new sections, including a Favorites section. This section will highlight people users message most frequently. There will also be reminders like people’s birthday.
According to TechCrunch, some of the new additions such as the Favorites section will be helpful. However, TechCrunch notes that it is not convinced about the birthdays section. It noted that the social networking site already provides notifications on birthdays and the new Messenger will increase those notifications. TechCrunch though notes that the idea behind this obviously is to increase engagement with its app.
Facebook noted in a press release that with the new messenger, it wants to make starting a conversation simple and easy. The company said that it looks forward to making the Messenger even better in the future.
