Negative sentiment in the stock markets continued in mid-week trading. On Wednesday, relative volume jumped to 1.5 times, as the S&P 500 (SPY) fell by 0.53% and the Nasdaq (QQQ) lost 1.0%.
Among the five stocks to watch, two are specialty chemicals stocks. LyondellBasell Industries (LYB) gained 6.84% yesterday and is up by nearly 16% over the last week. LYB stock has a 11.26% forward yield. It received no analyst rating changes since mid-December, when BMO Capital downgraded the stock.
The Mosaic Company (MOS) added 5.5% on no news. Both firms likely rose alongside the strength in oil prices.
Dow Inc. (DOW) is in a breakout, closing at $28.26. Shares have indicated a multiple bottom that has been forming since August 2025.
The fourth stock to watch is Applovin (APP). After forming a bearish double top at around $725, shares traded lower. Investors prefer to hold Alphabet (GOOG) instead of APP stock or The Trade Desk (TTD). Google and YouTube have stronger advertising revenue potential.
Aptiv (APTV) dropped by 6.03% after trading near a 52-week high. Profitability prospects are still strong, but the near-term outlook is uncertain. It has a heavy reliance on GM and Stellantis (STLA) for its orders. Investors are taking profits after the recent run-up.
