The Disney Plus streaming service has already been hacked.
The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) has announced that, just over a week after the new streaming service was launched, multiple accounts have been shut down after hackers tried to break into them.
The news site "ZDNet" found stolen Disney Plus account usernames and passwords selling for $3 U.S. on underground hacking forums. Disney's streaming service costs $8.99 U.S. a month. Disney says there's no indication of a security breach compromising passwords. And Disney Plus hasn't said how many subscribers have had security problems.
Disney is hoping to attract millions of subscribers with its mix of Marvel and Star Wars movies and shows. Disney Plus currently includes nearly 500 movies and 7,500 TV episodes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and other brands, including originals like “The Mandalorian,” which data shows has piqued interest among viewers. Helped by several promotions, the new service attracted 10 million subscribers the week it launched.
Disney is telling users to contact Disney Plus customer service if they believe their accounts have been hacked. But numerous users have complained that wait times remain very long for Disney Plus
