Microchip Shortage Impacts Apple’s Production Of MacBooks And iPads

Production of some of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) most popular consumer technology, including MacBooks and iPads, has been temporarily halted due to a global component shortage.

Microchip shortages have caused delays in MacBook production, according to the company, adding that iPad assembly has also been postponed because of a shortage of displays and display components.

As a result of the delay, Apple has pushed back a portion of component orders for the two devices from the first half of this year to the second half. Apple’s production plans for its popular iPhones have not been impacted by the supply shortage.

Also, while the shortage of components is causing a supply chain issue for Apple, it has not yet impacted any product availability for consumers worldwide.

Apple’s major supplier Foxconn has warned that the unprecedented shortage in semiconductor microchips is affecting supply chains to clients.

The microchip shortage has also impacted the automotive industry, with several companies curtailing their vehicle manufacturing in recent months.
