Amazon To Hold ‘Prime Day’ On June 21 and 22, But Not In Canada

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has set June 21 and 22 for the company’s annual 'Prime Day,' bringing its mega sales event back to its typical summertime schedule. However, Canada is not included in this year’s event due to continued COVID-19 restrictions.

Amazon says that members of Amazon’s Prime subscription program will get access to "more than two million deals" across every category of its online business.

Prime Day, which started in 2015, is typically held in July. The discount celebration is designed to attract new Prime subscribers, promote Amazon’s products and services, and to provide a sales boost during a normally slower shopping period in the summer.

Last year, the company was forced to delay Prime Day until mid-October due to pandemic-related uncertainty and strains on its fulfillment and logistics capacity.

Amazon is again postponing this year’s Prime Day in India and Canada due to the worsening spread of COVID-19 in those countries and amid continued pandemic restrictions, the company said. No date for when Prime Day might be held in Canada has been announced.

Amazon previously confirmed that Prime Day would be held in June, but it stopped short of announcing a date for the event. The company said it is holding Prime Day one month earlier this year because July is typically a busy vacation period.

Amazon has forecast that its second-quarter revenue will be between $110 billion U.S. and $116 billion U.S., which surpassed Wall Street’s projected $108.6 billion U.S. and implies a bump from Prime Day sales.
