Meta Platforms (META) has unveiled new virtual reality (VR) glasses that incorporate artificial intelligence (A.I.) and cost $1,299 U.S.
At its annual “Meta Connect” developer conference, the company launched its new “Meta VR Glasses,” a smaller and slimmer device compared to the company’s Quest-branded headsets.
Meta also unveiled a new handheld device called the “Muse Charm” that works with the company’s recently released Muse A.I. personal assistant.
However, Meta revealed few details about what Muse Charm can do, other than to say that people will be able to speak to the gadget in order to interact with A.I. agents
A price for the Muse Charm device was not disclosed.
The new Meta VR Glasses are lighter and more compact than the company’s previous virtual reality headsets and go on sale in spring 2027.
However, the latest VR glasses are much more expensive at $1,299 U.S. The most recent Quest 3S headset costs $299 U.S.
In its presentation to developers, Meta said the new VR Glasses function as a minicomputer and can help people with many of the tasks they would carry out on a laptop or tablet.
The glasses are able to display better visuals than Quest headsets and contain sensors that track users’ eyes and hand movements.
The developer conference is being held days after Meta Platforms launched its Muse A.I. assistant that has garnered considerable attention from analysts and consumers.
META stock has declined 2% over the last 12 months to trade at $744.10 U.S. per share.
