Retail Sales (Sept,) Retail sales edged down 0.1% to $44.0 billion in August.

Employment Insurance (Sept.) Regular Employment Insurance (EI) beneficiaries in Canada totaled 563,000 in August, down 3% from the previous month. This decrease followed a 5.0% increase in July, when legislative changes to the EI program came into effect. On a year-over-year basis, the number of beneficiaries was up 23,700, or 4.4%.

Average Weekly Earnings (Sept.) Statistics Canada reported that average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $960 in August, up 0.8% from the previous month. Compared with 12 months earlier, weekly earnings increased 1.6%, partly as a result of relatively low earnings in August 2015.
